Abstract: This study introduces the paper of this issue entitled, Equality and Equity in Latin American Science and Technology. The articles involved analyze the mechanisms through which gender discrimination operates in the institutionalization and professiolnalization of science and technology in some Latin American countries. In spite of the diversity of countries, institutions, disciplines and focuses, all the works coincice in their interest to account women’s exclusion, their motives and the strategies that would allow increasing women presence in order to achieve a full equity and equality in science and technology. The articles presented offer an unique overview of the situation of women in science and technology in those countries and several scientific and technological areas.
Translated abstract: En este estudio se presentan los artículos de este número que lleva por título Igualdad y equidad en Ciencia y Tecnología en Iberoamérica. Los diferentes trabajos presentados se centran en el análisis de los mecanismos a través de los que opera la discriminación de género en la institucionalización y profesionalización de la ciencia y la tecnología en los países iberoamericanos. A pesar de la diversidad de países, instituciones, disciplinas y enfoques presentes en los artículos, todos ellos coinciden en su interés por dar cuenta de la situación de exclusión de las mujeres, los motivos de la misma y las estrategias que permitirían aumentan su presencia, logrando así una plena equidad en ciencia y tecnología en nuestros países. En conjunto, los trabajos ofrecen una panorámica única de la situación de las mujeres en ciencia y tecnología de un amplio conjunto de países iberoamericanos y en diversas parcelas disciplinares.
