Resumen: | The genus Thaumastocoris Kirkaldy, 1908 is endemic to Australia and includes fourteen species (Vivas et al., 2015). The only species of the genus originally native to Australia that has been found in other regions of the world is Thaumastocoris peregrinus Carpintero & Dellapé, 2006, commonly known as the bronze bug. It was described based on specimens collected in Argentina (Carpintero & Dellapé, 2006) and has been reported from Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Israel, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Mexico and the United States of America (California) (Vivas et al., 2015; Leathers, 2016; Novoselsky & Freidberg, 2016). T. peregrinus is a pest that affects different species of Eucalyptus L’Héritier de Brutelle (Myrtaceae) causing serious damages in plantations (Novoselsky & Freidberg, 2016). |
