| Resumen traducido: | Se hace un breve repaso histórico del papel de los libros y las bibliotecas en los Estados Unidos y se pregunta si el impacto de los medios electrónicos dará como resultado la pérdida de los "valores de la cultura del libro que hizo posible la democracia y el uso responsable de la libertad". Se describe el interés de la Biblioteca del Congreso en crear una Biblioteca Nacional Digital de historia y cultura americanas para que se pueda acceder gratuitamente a través del Web a contenidos educativos de calidad, dotándola asimismo de intermediarios humanos que ayuden a integrar el nuevo conocimiento en línea con la vieja sabiduría de los libros. |
