Harry Kane has spent much of his career answering questions about trophies. On Monday night, the England captain had the biggest individual prize in football to show for a journey that began in Tottenham's academy and took him to the summit of the game.

The Bayern Munich striker claimed the 2026 Ballon d'Or at London's Palladium Theatre, becoming the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001.
Kane, 33, finished ahead of Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal, with Rodri and Lionel Messi completing the top five.
A Season of Extraordinary Numbers
Kane's triumph followed a remarkable campaign in which he scored 73 goals for club and country, including 61 in 51 appearances for Bayern.
His 36 Bundesliga goals helped Bayern secure the domestic league and cup double, while he struck 14 times in the Champions League and six times for England at the World Cup.
"I'm almost speechless," Kane admitted as he accepted the award.
He also acknowledged the quality of the opposition. "It was really tough this year, the incredible players I was up against," he said.
Tottenham Roots, Bayern Glory
For Kane, the occasion was also an opportunity to remember the club where his career began.
I want to say thank you to Tottenham Hotspur. I wouldn't be where I am today without Tottenham.
After years of near misses in north London, his move to Bayern in 2023 finally brought the silverware that had eluded him.
But Kane was keen to emphasise that his rise had been anything but straightforward.
My journey wasn't straightforward, I wasn't the kid who went straight to the top. I had to experience the downs, a lot of loan moves, had to fight my way to be the very best. I hope that can give you inspiration.
Putellas Claims Third Crown
Spain midfielder Alexia Putellas collected the women's Ballon d'Or for the third time, following her previous victories in 2021 and 2022.
The former Barcelona star, now at London City Lionesses, was rewarded after another successful campaign with the Catalan club.
Yamal, Saka Among Other Winners
Yamal claimed the men's young player award, while Barcelona's Vicky López won the women's equivalent.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente and Barcelona's Pere Romeu took the coaching honours, with Unai Simón and Cata Coll named the leading goalkeepers.
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka received the Socrates Award for his humanitarian work, while Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona claimed the men's and women's club awards.
For Kane, who also collected the best striker prize, it was a night that put an emphatic stamp on an extraordinary career.
